Can I give my hamburger to Jesus?
When our oldest daughter, Rebecca, was about 2 years old, we took her to McDonald’s. As we were walking out, she had her Happy Meal bag in her hand. There was a homeless man sitting on a bench. He was worn out, had a long beard, and just looked tired. Rebecca stopped, looked up at her mom, and said, “Can I give my hamburger to Jesus?” Now, of course, we allowed her to do that, and the gentleman took the burger. I will never forget that moment. But one reason our daughter, at such a young age, saw Jesus in this man was because her mother had just taught her a lesson a few days before about what Jesus said: “When you do it unto the least of these, you do it unto me.” (Matthew 25:40) Now, who would have thought a young two-year-old could understand that concept? But she did! We are to raise up our children in the ways of the Lord so that when they are older, they will not depart from them. (Proverbs 22:6) Never underestimate the impact you can have on your children. Raise them, pointing them to God’s Word and His truths.
